He was predeceased by : his parents, John Edgar Long and Lola Long (Williams); and his half-sister Viola Nichols. He is survived by : his wife Jane Long of Fort Worth; his children, John E. Long III (Taunya) of Denison and Pamela Ann Long of Fort Worth, Texas.; his granddaughters, Katharine N. Long, April J. Quevedo (Aaron) and Jennifer R. Long; and his great grandchildren, Rylan Quevedo, Dax Quevedo and Emersyn R. Long.
