He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis R James and Lora Ellen James (Ferrell); his sister Sherry Francine James; and his grandson Mason McCleary. He is survived by: his wife Tammy James; his sister Barbara Myers (Scott); his children, Lindsay James of Edmond, Whitney Hill (Justin) of Edmond and Trevor James (Carley) of Yukon; his grandchildren, Lorelei, Ellie Hill, Cohen and Evyn James; his stepsons, Ryan McCleary (Mandy) of Fayetteville, AR, Shayn McCleary of Broken Arrow and J. D. McCleary of Miami; his grandchildren, Gabe (Hunter McCleary), Sydney Smith, Megan McCleary (Miles), Zane, Elias McCleary, Dillon (Tori), Ireland McCleary and Breanna Turner; and his great grandchildren, Asanté and Asa Sample.

Visitation was held on Sunday, May 25th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service (5 B St NW, Miami, OK 74354). A celebration of life was held on Tuesday, May 27th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ Restoration (59001 E 100 Rd, Miami, OK 74354).
