She was predeceased by: her parents, Johnnye Inez Taylor Eckols and Joseph Durant "JD" Eckols; her brother Elbert Eckols; her husband Melvin McEwen; and her siblings-in-law, Donald McEwen, Marvin McEwen, Tommy Hudson and Kay Hudson Towery.
She is survived by: her children, Mella McEwen, Gary McEwen (Cathy) and Lorri Fields (Sammy); her grandchildren, Samantha Fields Durham (Joseph), Robert Fields (Sierra), Randy McEwen (Jamie), Ashley McEwen Harrod (James), Joel Richardson (Amanda) and Sarai Richardson (Ashley); and her great grandchildren, Braxton, Grayson Durham, Camdyn, Westyn Fields, Kaden, Emily McEwen, Trenton McEwen, Kyra, Logan Harrod, Brayleigh, Brentley, Raelyn, Parker, Jameson Richardson and Malia Richardson. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
When COVID hit Midland in 2020, the in-laws were told they couldn't walk at the mall.
