He was predeceased by: his father Johnney Lee Steffes. He is survived by: his mother Cherry Rachinda Bishop (Carter); his wife Cynthia Steffes; his children, Emily Griffith and Michael Griffith; and his siblings, Johnney Steffes Jr. (Carla Steffes), Rachinda Gibbs (Jason Gibbs) and Jarod Bishop. He is also survived by fourteen nieces and nephews; fifteen great nieces and nephews.

In Lieu of flowers Mitch would want donations to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
