He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Carlson and Hannah Carlson (Forsberg). He is survived by: his wife SuAnne Carlson; his children, Chris Carlson (Tracy), Joel Carlson (Laura) and Spencer Carlson; his grandchildren, Kennedy, Knox and Margot; and his siblings, Phil Carlson (Diane), Caroline Reed (Don) and Ilene DeSpain. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
