He was predeceased by: his parents, E. B. "Bailey" Stephens and Darlene Stephens. He is survived by: his siblings, Michael Eugene "Bones" Stephens and Lucinda "Cindy" Vogelweid (Stephens); and his nieces, Christine Bischoff of Jacksonville and Tania Cox of Wichita. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

LaVern's favorite charity is Wounded Warriors, and the family requests donations to that charity instead of flowers.
