He is survived by: his wife Linda; his children, Heather Wiggins (Audie Martin), John Doolin (Brandy Doolin) and Lindsey King (David King); his grandchildren, Aubrey Wiggins, William Wiggins, Charlotte Doolin, John Jagger Doolin, Jude King, Arden King and Sailer King; his great grandchild Elion Granados; his friend Mel Weatherly; his sister-in-law Paulette Canfield; and his sisters, Kit Doolin, Mary Lou Tremblay, Colleen Doolin, Carole Doolin, Martha Doolin and Ann Carlson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in memory of John William Doolin to Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana.
