Meliss left this world on February 9, 2026 at the age of 89, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. Though Meliss may no longer walk beside us, her memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Meliss touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. She was predeceased by: her parents, Harry Carleton Armitage and Hildred Juanita Armitage (Hall); her sister Jean Gell (Armitage); and her former husband John Leo Appel, Jr.. She is survived by: her brother Thomas Armitage (Meg Parisi); and her daughters, Karen Brown (Nicholas), Dianne Appel, Gretchen McFarland (John McNeal) and Wendie Appel (Todd Abernathy). She is also survived by "Grams" to her eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
