He was predeceased by: his parents, Jerry Dean Knight and Ruth Ann Knight (Gates); his brother-in-law John M. Sheets; and his sibling's children, Valton C. Doss, Benjamin Knight and Elizabeth A. Knight.

He is survived by: his siblings, Jimmy D. Knight, Jerald D. Knight, Bill R. Knight (Angel), Jennifer S. Mathews (Ron), Jeannie S. Heil and Denise Martin; his close friend Mary Sweetser; his daughter Robin; and his siblings' children, Chris Mathews, Angela Hodge, Brittney Smith, Lindsey Parks, Jessica Heil, Derrick Knight, Andrew Knight, Jadyn Nunley, Parker Knight and Hailey Boulter.
