He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Werhan Nichols and Alice Jeanne Nichols (Parnell); and his son Charles "Charlie" Fanning. He is survived by: his wife Loretta Louise Fanning (Henning); his sons, Sam Nichols and Chris Fanning; his grandchildren, Peyton and Preston Kennedy; his great grandchild Gannon Kennedy; and his siblings, Beverly Avey (John), Lawerence "Nick" Nichols (Rhonda) and Stephen Nichols. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
