She was predeceased by: her parents, Joe Ross and Opal Nichols Ross; her former husband Kenneth Sumpter; her husband Jack Hoffman; her brother Leland; her stepson Ronnie; and her grandson Michael Sumpter.

She is survived by: her daughter Trina Kistler (David); her stepson Bobby Sumpter (Cathy); her siblings, Jess Ross (Carol), Barbara Cavett and Jean Gay Potts; her stepchildren, Kim McCarty (Billy), Steve Hoffman (Amy), Kelly Hoffman (Joy), Kathleen Mixon (Jay) and Julie Goldsmith (David); Brenda Ross. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Raised on the dairy farm south of Glencoe, she was assigned chores as her contribution to the family and upkeep of the home.
