He was predeceased by: his parents, Isaach Stephens and Celia Stephens (Thronsbery); his siblings, Coeta, LaVeta, Colleen, Arlene, Vivian and Donald Stephens; and his granddaughter Marhyiah Parmley.
He is survived by: his wife Gerrie; his children, Mona Stephens, Tonya Stephens, Alex Stephens (Lynn), Zachary Stephens (Dorothy), James Ross Jr. (Angelina) and Regina Cooksey (John); and his sisters, June Osborn and Kathy Beshears. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
