We announce the death of James Henry Sumlin of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, who passed away on September 26, 2026, at the age of 75. James will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, J. D. Sumlin and Rissie Sumlin (Gaines); and his siblings, Henry Sumlin, Edith Ann Sumlin-Walls, Mae Etta Sumlin-Neal and Beverly Jean Sumlin-Moss.
He is survived by: his wife Margie Sumlin; his children, James Jr. (Misty Sumlin), Aaron (Shayla Sumlin) and Rebecca; his son-in-law Ron Wiley of New Mexico; his grandchildren, TaKasha, Shantel, Shana, Trey, Dillon, Eric, Jahlil, Aleah, Aaron Michael, Isaiah and Andrew; and his siblings, Clarissa Stevenson of Del City, Oklahoma, Katherine Moss of Del City, Oklahoma and Phillip Sumlin of Shawnee, Oklahoma. He is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Cooper Funeral Home (210 W Walnut St, Tecumseh, OK 74873). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 1st 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Sharon Baptist Church (19002 S Gordon Cooper Dr, Shawnee, OK 74801).
