He was predeceased by: his mother Zella Ray Wilson; his brother Rick Mathis; his former wife Paula Mathis; and his son Kevin Mathis. He is survived by: his siblings, Tommy Merrick, Jeff Merrick (Cathy Jones), Lee Ann Green and Brenda Brown; his wife Debbie; and his sons, Gary Mathis Jr. and Chris Mathis. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, along with many extended cousins.
