He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Wells Hargett and LaVesta Hargett (Bowen); his siblings, LaVonna, Freda (Willard Dyer), Claudia (Harmon Cook), Nell (John Salles) and V. W. (Mike); his sister-in-law Cleda Hargett; his brother Vernon Hargett; his cousin Linda Broughton (Bowen); James.

He is survived by: his wife Margaret Hargett (Renfrow); his children, Ken Hargett and Shari; his son-in-law Chet Cross; his grandsons, Cameron Cross and Michael Johanning (Meghan); his son Christopher; his daughter-in-law Dr. Megan Abtahi (Keivan); his grandchildren, Dane, Mila Abtahi and Matthew Johanning; his daughter Elena (Emma Walker); and his grandson Arthur. He is also survived by his extended family, neighbors and other friends.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made to Good Shepherd Hospice Foundation.
