She was predeceased by: her parents, Frances Elizabeth Briley (Lynn) and Benjamin Franklin Briley Jr. A. She is survived by: her children, Shonda Lynne Barnoski, Cheri Faye Jackson, Teri Kaye Smith, Mark Curtiss Smith and Matthew Benjamin Smith; her sister Benetta Deason; her brother-in-law Dwayne Deason; and her close friend Gayle Reynard. She is also survived by her grandchildren; her great-grandchild.
Janet was particularly proud of being a mother and grandmother, roles she regarded as her greatest accomplishments alongside her remarkable contributions to education.
