He was predeceased by: his parents, Jerry Deroy Smithey and Patricia Carmen Castro; his stepparents, Sarah Smithey and Bob Dethlefsen; and his siblings, Judy Smithey and Robert Dethlefsen.

He is survived by: his wife Pam Smithey; his children, Trent Smithey (Cindy) of Sapulpa, Chris Smithey of Tulsa and Nicole Smithey of Sand Springs, Oklahoma.; his grandchildren, Sonora, Dakota Reagh and Nate Smithey; and his siblings, Juanita Smithey, Johanna Flores of Santa Ana, Valerie Koeninger of Lubbock and Jeff Smithey (Debbie) of Tulsa, Oklahoma.. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
