He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Henry and Esther Ruth Coates (Smith); and his siblings, Lenna Renner and Charles Coates. He is survived by: his wife Linda Coates (Sonnenfeld) of Tulsa; his children, Brent (Karen Coates) of Arlington, VA and Rebecca (Ken Shepard) of Tulsa; his grandchildren, Kayleigh Coates, Abigail Shepard and Asher Shepard; his sisters, Barbara Coates, Nancy Beck and Cheryl Nichols; and his siblings-in-law, Bruce, Toni Sonnenfeld, Carol (Sonnenfeld), Rob Culbertson and Barry Sonnenfeld. He is also survived by nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial contributions be made to Folds of Honor or Kirk of the Hills.
