Mark Turner Obituary

Mark Turner, 94, Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed from this life Tuesday, January 11, 2022. He was born in Stigler, Oklahoma, on October 3, 1927 to Henry Smith Turner and Lena Elizabeth Johnson. Mark attended Porter High School. On his 18th birthday he registered for the military serving in the Air Force and after training spent a year in Korea honorable discharged as a Corporal. After his service, Mark attended Northeastern State and then Oklahoma A&M where he studied agriculture and teaching. Baptized as a young man it was in Stillwater where he met his future bride, Bonnie Van Sickle at church and on October 13, 1949 they were wed in Oklahoma City. Mark and Bonnie were married for 63 years before her passing and lived in Tulsa where they raised 3 children and faithfully worshiped God at the Home Gardens Church of Christ. Mark worked as a carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years before retiring later to work 20 years as a security guard at 2300 Riverside Drive. Mark was an avid hunter and fisherman. Every year he would anticipate the start of a new deer hunting season and would plan trips with his friends or his son. In the spring he would look forward to the bass beginning to spawn and even at the age of 93 would know the water temperature at his favorite lakes desiring to be on the water with a fishing pole. Sports was also an enjoyable pastime for Mark. He loved watching baseball, St Louis Cardinals specifically if they were playing any good, and college football. Needless to say he was thrilled to see his OSU team beat Notre Dame recently. Mark enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. Frequently Mark could be found playing with them in his quiet way. He might borrow the princess crown from a granddaughter when she wasn't looking or push around a hot wheels toy and he was pleased to hold a grand baby. Preceding Mark in death were his parents Henry and Lena Turner; wife, Bonnie; infant children Stanley and Susan; brothers, TJ, Bud, Dee, and Dan; sisters, Edith Williams Groover, Neoma Williams Graves, Estelle Mason, and Myrtle Dillingham; granddaughter, Leah Stacy Hogard. Mark is survived and will be missed by his children, Gail Schoonover and husband Pat of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, son Stephen Turner and wife Marie of Tulsa, Oklahoma and daughter Marsha Curtiss and husband Tom of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren Lisa Buteau and husband Aaron, Shannon Turner, Sarah Jacobs and husband Bobby, Heather Dietlin and husband Ricky, and Chris Reinert and wife Billie; great-grandchildren, Sidney, Evie, Bobby Jr, Abigail, Harrison, Kylie, Macy, Madisyn, Mason, Mavrik, and Jack; great-great-grandchildren, Danny, Hunter, Jaxson; his sister, Faye Wallace and husband Frank of Norman, Oklahoma; many other relatives and friends.
