He was predeceased by: his parents, Katherine V. Acosta and Edmond L. Phillips Sr.; his wife Martha F. Phillips; his brothers, Edmond L. Phillips Jr. and Roy D. Phillips; and his pet Pooh.

He is survived by: his brother Jim R. Phillips; his children, Katherine E. Earlywine (Jerry) and David E. Phillips (Gwyn); his granddaughters, Michelle L. Lane (Ethan) and Lauren E. Mata (Ryan); and his great grandchildren, Thatcher W. Lane and Wolfgang D. Mata. He is also survived by two nieces and three nephews.
