He was predeceased by: his parents, Zelmer Brooks and Alma Brooks (Eaves); and his siblings, Ola Coffey, Ada Phillips, Chuck Brooks, Freda Phillips, Rena Turney-Beshears, Calvin Brooks, Frank Brooks and Zelmer, Jr..
He is survived by: his nephew Gary Brooks (Janet); his sister-in-law Wanda Brooks; his cousins, Stan Williams, Syble Tull, Joye White, Peggy Reynolds and Saundra Bigelow; his friend Ethel Perry; Melissa Lee (Peery). He is also survived by many other family members and friends.
