He was predeceased by: his parents, Arley Edward and Leona Evelyn Thomas (McKenna); his siblings, Jean Sapaugh, Alberta Allen, Evelyn Byers and Kenneth Thomas (Tuffy); and his nephews, Chris Thomas and Leroy Jones.

He is survived by: his wife Kathy Thomas; his sons, Randy Thomas, Michael Thomas and Donnie Ray Thomas; his siblings, Donald Thomas (Karen), Glen Thomas (Vila), Vernon Thomas, Dennis Thomas, Bob Thomas, Ann Moody and Nancy; his grandchildren, Joshua Thomas, Jace Thomas, Bethany Thomas and Michael Scott Thomas; and his great grandchildren, Alikide Thomas, Promyse Thomas and Hudson Kidd.
