He was predeceased by: his mother Ellen Austin. He is survived by: his father Clare Austin; his sons, Jeffrey Lee Austin and Kevin Gene Austin; his sister Cherrie Dutton; and his nieces and nephews, Angie, Katie and Jamie of Seattle Washington.
As a testament to his caring nature, Gene also expressed a wish for donations to be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, ensuring that he could contribute to the well-being of children in need even after his passing.
