She was predeceased by: her parents, Frank Stroble and Hazel Stroble; her husband Charles Smith; and her siblings, Delores and James.
She is survived by: her former husband Grant Cooney; and her stepsons, Brent, Chad and Seth Cooney. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
She joined the Sisters of Charity of Providence Convent where she earned a degree in Art and later became Mother Superior.
