He was predeceased by: his parents, Lyle Cooney and Almamae Cooney (Kittrell); his former wife Elizabeth Lacey (Eileen); his wife Dorothy Smith; and his brother Chet Cooney.
He is survived by: his sons, Brent Cooney of Irrigon, OR, Chad Cooney (Jennifer) and Seth Cooney (Paula) of Hermiston, OR; and his grandchildren, Sidney, Ally, Myah, Joseph and Tanner. He is also survived by 6 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, September 21st 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church (565 W Hermiston Ave, Hermiston, OR 97838).
