He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Edward Rutledge and Violet Pauline Shockey; and his grandson Michael Hayes. He is survived by: his wife Thelma Rutledge; his sister Bonnie (Claude Cowan); and his children, Shawna Cowan, Roger Smith, Jon, Ben Rutledge, Sherry, Silva, Valerie and Ralene.

“Remembering my dad, My dad always saw the best in others and worked very hard all his life. I will always remember our fishing trips. He was surrounded by family members who loved him all his life. He believed in doing the right thing, even if it wasn’t easy. I wish we had been closer. I know that he is in heaven with Ray & Violet and will always be with me, watching over me, and holding me accountable to live an honest life. Julia and I loved our dad. We will miss him. We know he is at peace.”
