With sadness, we share the passing of Geraldine Isabel Avery (Portland, Oregon). Geraldine, born on June 5, 1923, passed away on September 16, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Joseph McDonald Smith and Helen Viola VanDerzee Smith; and her son Michael. She is survived by: her children, Luther Avery Jr., Yvonne Alexander and Diane Avery; her grandchildren, Tonya Alexander, Sonya Blake, Deidre Avery, Bryan Avery and Cameron Avery; and her nephew VanDerzee. She is also survived by numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Ross Hollywood Chapel (4733 NE Thompson St, Portland, OR 97213). A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Maranatha Church (4222 NE 12th Ave, Portland, OR 97211). A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the Skyline Memorial Gardens (4101 NW Skyline Blvd, Portland, OR 97229).
The family of Geraldine Avery requests that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to "Meals on Wheels People" in memory of Geraldine.
