He was predeceased by: his parents, L. Phaon Gambee and Patricia Gambee; and his sister Mary Gambee. He is survived by: his wife Margaret Ahlers Gambee; his children, Michael Gambee (Kathleen), Erin Kamp (John), Kevin Gambee and Molly Gambee; his grandchildren, Fiona, Bridget Gambee, Thomas, Margaret, Henry and Theodore Kamp; his siblings, Joan Gambee Mahalic (Drew), Martha Gambee Sensenbrenner (John), Louis Gambee, Valerie Gambee DeVoe (Patrick) and Edwin Gambee (Karen); and his brother-in-law Michael Mulholland. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
