Michael Yoder Obituary

Michael Ray Yoder passed away on June 25, 2026. He will be remembered for his strength, faith, generosity, and deep love for his family and friends.
Michael was born in Compton, California, to Mary Katherine Chappelle and Bob Yoder. He graduated from high school in 1967 and joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 18. During his military service, Michael was wounded in combat and received two Purple Hearts in recognition of his service and sacrifice.
Michael married his first wife, Irene Vaughn, and they welcomed two daughters, Michele Yoder and Sharmen Yoder. He later founded Northwest Running Boards, a business he eventually sold.
Michael later married Candy Yoder, and they had three sons: Bret Yoder, Jason Yoder, who passed away shortly after birth, and Chad Yoder.
In September 2006, Michael married Jan Yoder. They shared many years together until her passing in May 2025. Michael also worked for the United States Postal Service, where he remained until his retirement.
Michael had a deep love for his church and Bible study, and his faith was an important part of his life. He enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, and spending time with those closest to him. Above all, he treasured his family and friends. He deeply loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and will be remembered as a loving, kind, and generous man.
Michael is survived by his children, Michele, Sharmen, Bret, and Chad; his seven grandchildren, Beau, Brittany, Cody, Colt, Lacey, and Levy; and his eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Renee, Awasthi, Cindy Day, Beth, Brianna, and Kelly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Katherine Chappelle and Bob Yoder; his beloved wife, Jan Yoder; his infant son, Jason Yoder; and his sibling, Kerry.
A memorial service honoring Michael’s life will be held Monday, July 27th at 10:00 a.m. at East Hill Church Family, 701 N Main Ave, Gresham OR, 97030. Family and friends are invited to gather for a reception at 3:00 p.m. at East Portland Moose Lodge, 16411 NE Halsey St, Portland OR, 97230.
Michael’s faith, kindness, generosity, and devotion to his loved ones will continue to live in the hearts of everyone who knew him. He will be deeply loved, greatly missed, and forever remembered.
