“I can't count the number of times I and others who knew and worked with Ellen would say "I want to grow up and be like Ellen." It was an honor to nominate her for the Woman of Achievement Award decades ago, and to have known her and been her friend. She always had my back and gave great advice. "Always reserve the right to be wiser tomorrow" and "don't assume malfeasance when mere incompetence will do" have been watchwords for me for decades. The world is a better place because of Ellen.”
