He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil Leroy and Eileen Mae Pettis (Mansfield); his brother Virgil, Jr.; his nephew Joseph Roman; and his in-laws, Richard and Bernie Brown.

He is survived by: his wife Debbie Sue (Lowing); his daughters, Dawn Apperson of Mississippi, Deanna Pettis of Girard and Amy Pettis of Pittsburgh; his brother Daniel Pettis of Texas; and his grandchildren, Alexa Anne Apperson, Elijah, David Pettis, Jonathon, Austin, Brianna Kinney and Scarlett Pettis.
