He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Jacob Otis and Helen Rounsley Charles; his wife Cynthia Preston; and his children, Cynthia Anne Charles, James P. Charles (Wendy) of Lawrence, MI and Nancy Charles-Columbia (Rick) of Pensacola, FL. He was also cherished by 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
