He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Gilbert and Kathryn Senkevich Gilbert; his former wife Karen Gilbert; and his brothers, Francis, Arthur and Joseph "Juju" Gilbert.
He is survived by: his children, Christopher Gilbert and Lori; his granddaughter Amelia Haberman; his sibling's children, Sandy Veltri (John), Kathy Guthrie (Mark) and Michael (Dottie); and his close friends, Frank Sangermano and Vince Pisano.
