He was predeceased by: his parents, Sarvotham Shetty and Gulabi Shetty; and his siblings, Karunakar Shetty and Lila Shetty. He is survived by: his sons, Kiran Shetty (Courtney) of Randolph, NJ and Nathan Shetty (Bina) of Charlotte, NC; his wife Yolan Shetty; his granddaughter Sahaeli Shetty; and his sibling's children, Ribitha, Risha, Nina and Sarvotham.

Memorial contributions in Ratnakar's name may be made to the American Heart Association, or Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH.

“I just learned of this loss. I am so very sorry to Dr. Shetty's family. I worked with him for 3 years and had much respect for him. He always held true to what he believed and never deviated, all for the good. The last I spoke to him, he was so kind. He will not be forgotten by myself, nor all of his patients.
