He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Phillips and Joye Phillips; his son Gilio (Helena Lazzaretti); and his brother Joseph Vitunic. He is survived by: his wife Lisa Phillips; his children, Jessica Follmer (Ryan), Samuel J. Phillips, Elizabeth Lheureau (Noah) and Hannah Welsh (Jerry); his grandson James Follmer; his sisters, Barbara Johns (Walter) and Peggy Vitovich; his sister-in-law Judy Spurlock (Roger); his nieces and nephews, Caleb Spurlock, Jacob Spurlock, Jason Phillips, Michaela Spurlock and Rachael Cottrell; and his pet Benny.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Disabled American Veterans.
