He was predeceased by : his friend Cove; his parents, Dennis E. Koontz and Gladys F. Koontz (Morgart); his wife Rosemary Koontz (Koozer); his daughters, Karen G. Stoeri and Louann E. Koontz; and his siblings, G. E. Clyde Koontz, Janet Lohr and Betty Koontz.

He is survived by : his children, G. Scott Koontz (Barbara) of Bedford and Susan Koontz Eberhart of Bedford; his grandchildren, Joel, Heather, Elicia, Andrew, Alison, Chelsea and Kyle; and his brothers, N. Edward Koontz (Ann) of Bedford, Richard Koontz (Bonnie) of Bedford and Gary Koontz (Cyndie) of Bedford. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
