He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Christie and Julia Adams Christie; his son John Christie Jr.; and his stepsons, Steven Hesidenz and Michael Hesidenz.
He is survived by: his wife Hilda Shively Christie of Butler; and his children, Norma "Gege" Christie (Ron Kern), Kathleen Smith, Linda Smith and David Christie. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
