John Edward Matis Obituary
John (Jack) E. Matis, 81, of Camp Hill, PA, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, at Harrisburg Hospital with his devoted family by his side.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, on August 1, 1944, Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John C. And Katherine (Brethold) Matis; his sister, Lois (Matis) Falosk, and his brother-in-law, James Falosk of Washington, PA.
Jack was a proud graduate of West Mifflin North High School, where he was a member of the school's first graduating class. He attended California University of Pennsylvania before serving his country in the United States Army.
Much of Jack's professional life was spent in sales and engineering. He built a career that reflected both his mechanical skills and his natural talent for connecting with people. He retired from UGI and later continued working several years with Citizens Bank.
Jack was a member of the West Shore Elks, the American Legion and the NRA. A man with many passions, he had a lifelong love of cars, guns, tools, and time spent with friends and family. His 1963 Dodge Ram Charger was a favorite in his younger years and, in later years, he was proud of his Ford F-150 Lightning, known to all as "Big Red".
Jack's anchor was his wife, Cheryl. For 52 years, she stood by him with devotion, raising their daughters and caring for him through every season of life. He loved her deeply and took pride in the family they built together. His daughters and grandsons brought him immense joy.
Surviving are his wife, Cheryl (Cosgrove) Matis; daughters Heather (and husband, Bo) Rudy of Duncannon, Beth Seitz of Lewisberry, and Brandon Bailey, who was like family to him, as well as four grandsons, Parker Seitz, Wyatt, Lucas, and Benjamin Rudy.
Jack will be remembered for his independence, loyalty, and devotion to those closest to him. In keeping with Jack's wishes, there will be no public services. Instead, he wanted his family to share a good meal together, raise a glass, and celebrate a life well lived.
