He was predeceased by: his parents, Lon C. Smith and Dorothy Gautier (Turruiviate); his wife Carol Wieseman Smith; his siblings, Betty Adams and Ken Smith; his nephew Mike Miller; and his niece Kimberly Yohe.

He is survived by: his daughter Amy Pierce; and his sister Lula Yohe. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
