He was predeceased by: his wife Joan Colosimo; his father Donald "Butch" Brownell; his son Nathan Brownell; and his brothers, Donald Brownell II and Steven Brownell.

He is survived by: his mother Lillian Stawisky Brownell of Carbondale; his daughter Lauren Brownell; his granddaughter Piper Brownell; his sister Linda Zefran (James Zefran); and his niece Dr. Katie Zefran.
