He was predeceased by: his parents, Cyril Smith and Jean Smith (McDonald). He is survived by: his wife Ellen (Brennan); his sons, Colin (Heather) of Ashburn, VA and Kyle (Marisa) of Branchburg, NJ; his grandchildren, Elliot, Nora, Layne and Riley; and his sister Peggy Jean Smith Buonomo (Joseph) of Carbondale. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
