He was predeceased by: his parent Na Fu; and his brother-in-law Sai Bun Chan. He is survived by: his wife Susan C. Kar (Shipman); his daughter Sarah T. Sweigart (Casey) of Carlisle; his siblings, Helen Chan of Hong Kong, Betty Yiu (Richard) of Hong Kong and Kevin Kar of Hong Kong; his grandson Jordan Sweigart; and his children, Adrienne Kar, Anthony F. Kar and Deirdre Hasson (Kar).
