He is survived by: his wife Barbara J Zimmerman; his children, Gilbert James Zimmerman II (Tanya), Colonel Scott Warren Zimmerman (Rebecca Meloy Zimmerman), Michelle, Isaac, Sarah, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Mitchel III, Sebastian, Katie and Robert (Jack); his grandchildren, Mathias and Naoni; his daughter Tanya J Swartz (Dan); and his grandchildren, Michelle, Jennifer, Andrew, Rhys, Paisley, Isla, Alanni, Jessica, Ella, Aubrey and Jameson.

Visitation was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory (2020 W Trindle Rd, Carlisle, PA 17013). A memorial service was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Friday, September 25th 2026 at 11:30 AM at the Fort Indiantown Gap.
