He was predeceased by: his parents, J. Russell Schellhase and D. Lauretta Schellhase (Pheil); his wife Louanne J. Wentzel; and his siblings, Glen, James, Vivian Newman, Retha Goetz and Delores "Nick" Otenberger.
He is survived by: his daughter Jodi Barnhart (Chris); his granddaughter Rebecca Karnoscak (Steven); and his great grandchildren, Lucille and Graham. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, September 19th 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Kelso Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd. (725 Norland Ave, Chambersburg, PA 17201). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
Memorial contributions in Joe's name may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Menno Haven.
