We are sad to announce that on July 18, 2025, at the age of 85, Julia Butler (Chester, Pennsylvania) passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, James Alexander and Bessie Elizabeth Townsend-Green. She is survived by: her family E. Church; her husband Carnell Butler, Sr.; her children, Carnell Butler, Jr., Alvin Butler, Deborah Wood, Stephen Butler and Tamira "Tammy" Butler; her sisters, Betty Hammond and Alice Hinson; her siblings-in-law, Arthur Lee Butler (Jean), James "Peedy" Butler (Beulah), Michael Butler, Delores Countee, Johnnie Mae Countee, Yvonne Watson, Shermaine Butler, Shirley Butler and Deanna Butler Pearsall (Darrin); her godson Darryl Butler; her granddaughters, Zakiyyah Butler (Kia) and Lakenya Butler; her siblings, James, Albert, Walter, Daniel, Robert, Thomas, George Green, Mary "Mae" Smith, Catherine Green and Alberta "Duckie" Boyce; her sisters-in-law, Becky Green and Elnora Green; and her great grandchild Jamiyah Nicole Butler. She is also survived by 14 beautiful grandchildren, 25 adorable great-grandchildren, 5 precious great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held on Saturday, August 2nd 2025 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the St. Luke Community Christian Church (302 Tilghman St, Chester, PA 19013). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 2nd 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Saturday, August 2nd 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Chester Rural Cemetery (412 W 15th St, Chester, PA 19013).
As a result of her servant leadership, she received several honors, including a Distinguished Service Award as a Site Leader for her outstanding contributions to the City of Chester.
