He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell L. Claar and Irene Claar (Claar); his son Terry Alan Claar; and his brother Samuel Wade Claar. He is survived by: his wife Donna J. Smith; his son David Claar (Nicole); his grandchildren, Jordan Claar (Tiffany), Brittney and Emmeline Claar; and his great grandchildren, Vivian, Charlene, Emelia and Lochlan.
