Robert Adkins wrote a sympathy message

“I was a junior high and high school classmate and teammate of Allen's. I will always remember him as one of the toughest guys I ever met, with one of the biggest hearts. He was undersized and often had to face off against young men weighing 30 or 40 pounds more than he did. He did more than just hold his own. He was also incredibly selfless, willing to give his friends and family the food from his plate and the shirt off his back. Allen will be missed by his former teammates and classmates.”
