He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Ruey and Margaret Lukanich Ruey. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Figel-Ruey; his daughters, Deana Carter (Kyle) of Charles Town, WV, Nichole Jones (Damon) of Rostraver Township and Rachael Resau (Kenneth) of Arlington, VA; his grandchildren, Quinn, Griffin, Ava, Vinny and Theo; and his sisters, Myra Amodie, Marcy Scott (John) and Maggi Kelly (Tom). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions in Speer's name can be made to the Donora Sportsman Club, the Eldora Gun and Rod Club, the Donora Smog Museum, or to the Washington Area Humane Society.

“I was very sorry to learn of Speer’s passing. I haven’t seen him since our college days at the fraternity house but my memories are very vivid. Speer was a great brother and could be very funny but had a serious side to him as well. He could always be counted on anytime there was a need by anybody. My thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends. I’m sure he will be greatly missed. By our faith we’ll look forward to a great reunion. Rest in Peace Brother.”
