Charles W. Zimmerman Obituary
Charles W. Zimmerman 90, of Dunbar Twp., passed away Tue. Dec. 26, 2017 in Uniontown Hospital. He was born April 19, 1927 in Mutual, Westmoreland County, a son of the late William J. and Gladys Silvis Zimmerman. Charles had previously worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad in Uniontown as a warehouseman until it closed in 1963.
He then was a self employed Auto Wrecker and Scrap Dealer for many years until he retired. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the 3rd Army in Germany during WW II from 1945 to 1948. He received the U.S. Victory Medal and the Army Occupation Medal. Charles also served as a Staff Sergeant in the 6th Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1951.
He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Connellsville. Charles will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his loving son W. Allen Zimmerman and wife Donna of Dunbar Twp., his grandchildren Lori Rosensteel and husband Danny, Jr. and their children Danny III and Bailey of Dickerson Run, Tara Meyer and husband Christopher and their children Emily and Natalie of Dunbar Twp., and W. Allen Zimmerman II and wife Marie and their children Julius and Alice Jane of Westerlo, Belgium, his sisters Nancy Shroyer of Connellsville, Jane A. Zimmerman of Connellsville, and Rita Lowe of Mt. Pleasant, and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents Charles was predeceased by his wife Virginia Mae Newcomer Zimmerman on Dec. 2, 2014 and his brother Franklin D. Zimmerman. Family and friends will be received Fri. from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Brooks Funeral Home Inc., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville (724-628-1430) where a Funeral Service will be held Sat. at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Kerri Clark officiating.
A Military Service will then be held by the Connellsville VFW and American Legion Honor Guard. A committal service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville.
