James D. Davitt Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James Davitt, our father, friend, and a devoted husband of 65 years to Josephine (DiGirolamo) Davitt, his beloved wife.

James graduated from St. Philip and St. James Catholic High School, in Philipsburg, NJ and was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, in Easton, PA. James grew up with good values and strong faith, which he carried throughout his life.

James, who was 92 at the time of his passing on September 22, 2026, lived a life filled with love, laughter, hard work, and unwavering determination, as well as his loyal service to our country. James proudly served in the US Army, and was later called to serve again during times of crisis.

James worked at Ingersoll Rand in Phillipsburg, NJ, building pumps and machinery, as well as inventing and building tools which were later adopted by the Company. James was also entrusted to assemble machinery for the oil industry, as well as pumps for nuclear plants. His skills did not stop there. If we could break it, which we often did, James could fix it! He could fix and build whatever was needed.

James had the remarkable ability to light up any room with his witty sense of humor. We will forever remember our numerous family gatherings and all of the Dad Jokes that seemed to easily roll off his tongue.

In addition to his beloved wife Josephine, James is survived by his three daughters, Laura (husband Robert), Patricia, and Sandra, as well as five grandchildren, James IV, Krista, Kira, Haley, and Aimee, and two great-grandchilden.

He was preceded in passing by his parents and eight siblings, John (Jack) Davitt, Frank Davitt, Robert Davitt, Joseph Davitt, Betty Coleman, Marie Langen, Joan Beishline, and Kathryn Trembler Woolf.

Our cherished memories of James will forever remain in our hearts and all who were blessed to know him.

The funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, 2026. A Viewing will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Finegan Funeral Home, 4080 William Penn Highway, Palmer Township, PA, with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 900 Washington St, Easton, PA, at 11:30 AM. The Interment will be at Gethsemane Cemetery in Palmer Township, PA.
